Carliss Jane Anderson, 67 of St. Augustine, FL and a Glen Alpine, NC native, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 7th, 2014, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. Born June 2, 1946 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of Lena Jerome Anderson of Glen Alpine and the late, Carl Dewitt Anderson. Carliss spent her life being a trendsetter and advocate for change. From being the first ever female school bus driver in the Glen Alpine School system (in the 1960's) to being the key motivator to bring Flagler Hospital to magnet status in mid-2000's - she has always worked to make a significant impact in the lives of those around her.A 1964 graduate of Glen Alpine High School, she gained her Associate degree at Western Piedmont Community College, Morganton, NC and graduated at Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, NC with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After moving to St. Augustine, Florida in September of 1983 and beginning employment at Flagler Hospital, she completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at Jacksonville University in 2004. She was a certified Cardiovascular Registered Nurse and was currently working in Medical Informatics at Flagler Hospital, as a Clinical Informatics Specialist/ENR Physician Support.Most notable in her 30 year career at Flagler are the multitude of friends, associates, and students that she mentored to better nursing, adopted as 'her kids' and invested her life into them; her involvement and work in bringing the hospital to full magnet certification and status, and the transition of the hospital from paper charting to MediTech electronic documentation.In addition to her mother, she is survived by her younger brother, Jerry Anderson, his wife, Julie, and daughter, Amanda of Granite Falls, NC; her roommate and friend of 30 years, Olivia Hagos of St. Augustine, Florida; long time friend, Gloria Mumford of St. Augustine; her sister-in-law, Linda Anderson of Morganton, NC; nieces, Terri Lynne Bourne and husband, Eddie of Morganton; Christy Anderson and Kelley Butler of Morganton, and Jodi Anderson of Cramerton, NC; great-nephews, Brandon Deyton, Bradley Deyton and wife, Sherry; great-nieces, Katelyn and MacKenzie White, Sarah Deyton and husband, Brandon Auton; great-great-nephews, Avery Deyton, Vincent and Victor Auton; and great-great-niece, Luna Shea Auton.In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her older brother, Tommie C. Anderson of Glen Alpine.A Celebration of Carliss’ Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Glen Alpine. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the funeral.
