Carlton Mitchell "Mitch" Benfield, Jr.

Carlton Mitchell "Mitch" Benfield, Jr., 55, of Morganton passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 following a brief illness.  Born in Caldwell County, NC on April 2, 1962, he was the son of Doris B. Payseur and the late Carlton Mitchell Benfield, Sr.  Mitch had attended Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  He worked at Henredon Furniture for 29 years and then at Trac Software in Lenoir.  Mitch loved to fish and spend time on John’s River.  He had a heart of gold.

Mitch is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane Benfield of the home; mother, Doris B. Payseur and husband, Jerry, of Hickory; brother-in-law, Lee Newton and wife, Wendy, of Hudson, NC; niece, Natalie Newton; and nephew, Grant Newton; mother and father-in-law, Estelle and Lee R. Newton of Hudson.

A private celebration of Mitch’s life will be held at a later date.
