Carol "Bug" Powell McKinley, 61, of Hickory, NC, formerly of Drexel, died unexpectedly Monday, March 19, 2007 at her residence. She was born April 10, 1945 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Robert Coy Powell and Annie Mae Shuffler Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Powell. Carol was a member of High Peak Baptist Church. She was a loving mom and sister.
Carol is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Daphne and Kennie Wood of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Audrey Perkins of Morganton, Shirley Tilley of Valdese, and Gilda Arney of Taylorsville, NC; brothers, Bob Powell of Drexel, NC and Jerry Powell of Connelly Springs, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at High Peak Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Benny Wood and Rev. Dr. Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Tri City Baptist Church, PO Box 1096, Eden, NC 27289. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
