Carolyn Brittain Browning

Carolyn Brittain Browning, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 after several years of declining health.  The family was truly blessed by a wonderful, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Born in Burke County, NC on September 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Hal and Sadie Martin Brittain.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and retired from Broughton Hospital after 20 years of service.

Mrs. Browning is survived by her sons, Doff E. Browning and wife, Teresa, of Morganton and Michael Brittain and wife, Carol, of Hickory, NC; daughter, Vickie B. Effler and husband, Johnny, of Marion; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Bennie Lois Dale and Gin Creswell, both of Morganton.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, McCarthy D. Browning; brothers, Joe Brittain and Jimmy “Bud” Brittain; and sisters, Dorothy Mims and Alice Elizabeth Brittain.

The graveside service will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Bridge 42 Cemetery with the Rev. Margaret Ashby officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1865 N. Powerhouse Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
