Carolyn Ruth Cantrell, 72, of Morganton passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Born in Burke County, NC on March 3, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John Hamilton Cantrell, Sr. and Ruth Becker Cantrell. Carolyn was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a 1965 graduate of Morganton High School, earned her nursing degree from Western Piedmont Community College, and worked at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Trey Hamilton Ward (Lyn) of Hickory; brothers, John Cantrell (Brenda) of Morganton and Henry Cantrell (Maude) of Charlotte; sister, Barbara Houston of Morganton; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends in the cemetery following the service.
