He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Whisenant Baker; two sons: Keith R Baker (Kimberly) and Michael L Baker (Tracy); 2 granddaughters: Stephanie Baker Phillips (Josh) and Brittany Baker Donnelly (Neal); 3 great-grandchildren: Nevaeh Hammer, Wyatt Baker, and Briana Phillips; nephew Danny Ritchie, 2 Nieces: Kim Ritchie Baker and Lisa Ritchie Ramsey; and many cousins and dear friends.
Upon graduation from Drexel High School, he worked more than 20 years in the automotive service industry as a mechanic and service manager. After his first retirement, he and his two sons established Bakers Waster Equipment, Inc. He also began Blue Ridge Disposal Inc. which he and Carolyn owned and operated for 13 years until they both retired.
Carson loved people and life and he never met a stranger. He and Carolyn spent many years traveling domestically and abroad. They traveled with friends and went RVing all over the country, enjoying God’s creation. He enjoyed playing golf, going to the races, and working on old vehicles. He had a passion for big game hunting and fishing, and he traveled to Montana and Colorado many times with friends for hunting trips. People were naturally drawn to him as he was always friendly, courteous, and funny. Carson loved to tell jokes and he laughed at himself when he made mistakes.
Carson lived a Christian life, setting the example for his family. He took his position as husband and father seriously, always teaching his sons and grandchildren how to live a moral life according to God’s Word. He was deeply respected by his family, as well as everyone who did business with him. He had a reputation of being honest, fair, and generous.
