Catherine Ailene "Sissy" Carswell Lowdermilk

Catherine Ailene “Sissy” Carswell Lowdermilk, 88, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018. She was born on December 13, 1930 in Burke County to the late B.F. Carswell and Annie Lou Orders Carswell. She enjoyed keeping children and cooking for anybody. She loved her family and her summers camping at the lake. She attended Glen Alpine School and graduated with perfect attendance through all 12 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death and is now reunited with her husband, Bill Lowdermilk, and brother, Wilbert Carswell.

She is survived by a son, Bud Lowdermilk (Becky) of Morganton; daughters, Trula Baker (Steve) of Morganton, and Lisa Metcalf (Jeff) of Salisbury, NC; sister, Nancy Lambert (Dude) of Morganton; sister-in-law, JoAnn Carswell of Morganton; granddaughter, Sloan Henry (Levi) of Glen Alpine; great-granddaughter, Cathryn Ann Henry; and special extended family, The Lambert, Morris, Carswell and Salisbury families.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A graveside service will begin at 12:30pm at Calvin Heights Baptist Church with Chaplain Laura Roach officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd, Valdese, NC 28690.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Grace Heights who took such loving care of her during her stay there. We also want to thank Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and assistance. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s support during this time.
