Catherine Kordelski Battersby passed away on February 19, 2021 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Cathy was born on April 13, 1948 to Edward and Gladys Kordelski whom predeceased her. In 1965 she married Robert "Bobby" Gebo who also predeceased her. On June 12, 1976, she married Charles C. Battersby, currently of Morganton, NC.
She is also survived by two sisters, Louise (and Tim) Serra of Preston, CT, and Patti Kordelski of Mansfield, OH; an aunt, Marie O'Connor of Canterbury, CT; a son Todd (and Jamie) Gebo of Preston, CT; three daughters, Robin (and Michael) Barrett of Mystic, CT; Heather (and Brad) Wheeler of Winter Garden, FL; and Sarah (and Jerrod) McKee of Hayesville, OH. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
The biggest joys in Cathy's life were expending herself in behalf of her offspring and speaking enthusiastically about God's Word, the Bible to all whom gave a hearing ear. She was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1970.
A memorial service will be held via video streaming on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the North Morganton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1663 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke County Hospice, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
