Cecil Leland Baker, 81, of Reep Drive, Morganton, NC, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC. Born in Madison County, NC, on December 25, 1925, he was the son of the late General Baker and Edith Payne Baker. Cecil was a member of First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine. He retired from Causby’s Concrete after 33 years of service. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle.Cecil is survived by his wife, Ruth Worley Baker of the home; a son, Alvin Baker and wife, Dee, of Morganton; daughters, Debbie Patton and husband, Charles, of the Lake James Community and Jean Bumgarner of Hickory, NC; brothers, Bobby, Clyde, and Ohlen Baker, all of Morganton; a sister, Inez Henderson of Morganton; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. before the service. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
