Cecil "Pete" Whisenant, 81, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on February 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Robey Whisenant and Rosie Pritchard Whisenant. Pete was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at Drexel Heritage Furnishings and retired from Bernhardt Furniture.
Pete is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sadie Whisnant Whisenant of the home; sons, Ronnie Whisenant and his wife, Debbie, of Asheville, NC and Andy Whisenant and his wife, Angie, of Hickory, NC; a daughter, Sandra Brown of Morganton; grandchildren, Stevie, Laura, Morgan, Kaysi, and Kenzi Whisenant; brothers, Wayne Saulman and Robey Whisenant, both of Morganton; and a sister, Polly Robbins of Burlington, NC.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by a son, Jerry D. Whisenant; a son-in-law, Eddie Brown; a brother, Clyde Whisenant; and two sisters, Nora Holland and Tootsie Kay.
The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Rev. John Pritchard officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
