Cecil Thomas Smith

Cecil Thomas Smith, 67, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022.  Born in Rutherford County, NC on March 2, 1955, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Smith.  Cecil owned a landscaping business and enjoyed woodworking.  His favorite activity was fishing.  He was known as “Horseshoe” to many local carp fishermen because he was also catching the largest fish and winning the pot luck.  A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Cecil brought love, joy, laughter, and knowledge to those around him.  To know Cecil was to love him.  “If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again.”

Cecil is survived by his beloved wife, Davina Smith; daughters, Miranda Gravely and Ann-Marie Holle; grandchildren, Katie Hensley, Ashlyn Hensley, EZ Gravely, Riley Gravely, Anna Smith, and Austin Baker; great-great-grandchild, Haven Hensley; step-children, Christie Rose (Daniel) and Mike Mills; step-grandchildren, Kierra Robinson (Sean), Katherine Rose-Comadoll (Trinity), Michael Mills, Logan Mills, and Matthew Mills; step-great-grandchildren, William Robinson, Preston Robinson, and Paizlie Robinson; and brother, Larry Smith (Christine), Michael Smith (Susan), Philip Smith (Irma), and Alan Smith (Patsy).

Private services for Cecil will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
