Charles “Charlie” Archer Binford, 76, of Charlotte, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 8, 2024. He had a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease but his sense of humor and smile always remained.

Born in Richmond, VA on May 27, 1948, he was the son of the late William Addison Binford and Frances Katherine Archer Binford.

Charlie was a member of Eastway Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dearly loved his family. He retired in 2011 from Duff-Norton in Charlotte and enjoyed keeping records of components of his life on Excel spreadsheets. He also enjoyed walking, maintaining his property, woodworking, and traveling. He thought a trip was not complete without a U-turn.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane Perry Binford; daughters, Christie Binford Dugle (David) and Melody Binford Thompson (Brad); grandchildren, Emily Barnette (Noah), Ashley Martinez-Gonzalez (José), Audrey Dugle, Bethany Thompson, and Caitlyn Thompson; great-grandson, Weston; sister, Kathy Dyer (Kevin); and brother-in-law, Gene Sexton.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Corbin Thompson.

The family will greet friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The cryptside service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Dean McCurry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or to Tillery Compassionate Care (tillerycompassionatecare.org/donate-3/).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

May God fill your families with memories that are never ending. Just knowing Diane & Charlie for less than 3 years, it’s been a pleasure watching how much his family enjoyed his jokes and seeing the adorable smile and of course his laugh he always kept, he will be missed. Love, Steve and Marcie Lemons

My deepest and heart felt condolences to all the family. I enjoyed the talks we would have as he walked up Mohigan street. Knowing that he is walking the streets in Heaven with Jesus, makes my soul sing with joy...

Charlie was the best neighbor. As a single girl who lived across the street from him, he was always there offering and helping hand and watching out for me. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have both him and Diane as neighbors during my time in Echo Hills neighborhood. May his memory be eternal and my thoughts and prayers go out to Diane and their family.

—Elaine

Always enjoyed seeing Mr. Charles walking through the neighborhood. His presence in echo hills will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t remember ever calling your dad Mr. Binford. He was always Papa Binford to me. He had the greatest laugh and gentlest soul. I always loved when I got to see him. Prayers and love to the entire family. Rest peacefully Papa Binford.

Melody, your family has been in my prayers these last few months and will continue to be as you grieve the passing of your father/ grandfather from his earthly home to his heavenly home.
