Charles Lee "C. L." Brittain

Charles Lee "C. L." Brittain, 85, of Morganton, NC passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Valdese Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on March 1, 1925, he was the only child of the late Charley L. Brittain and Thelma Isaac Brittain. C.L. was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Amphibian Engineer Brigade veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for Great Lakes Carbon Corp. for 13 years and retired from Duke Power Company.C.L. is survived by his wife of 62 years, Inez Rust Brittain; daughters, Dian Ramsey of Morganton and DeLea Payne, and husband, Dr. Danny Payne, of North Wilkesboro, NC; and one grandson, Kyle Ramsey of Hendersonville, NC.The celebration of C.L.’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Reverends Doug Goforth and Marcus Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors provided by the N. C. National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
