Charles Marsh Edwards

Charles Marsh Edwards, Jr., 89, of Valdese, NC died Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Queens, NY on December 7, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles Marsh Edwards, Sr. and Gladys Bloomfield Edwards. Charles served with the U.S. Army during WWII and worked as a clerk in a medical dispensary in Taunton, England. He was a member and long-time treasurer of Calvary Lutheran Church. Charles retired from Leviton Industries/Southern Devices with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed model railroads, woodworking, gardening, and genealogy.Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise Tiedt Edwards; children, Catherine I. Edwards of Charlotte, NC, Melissa Grace Edwards Moore and her husband, Stephen, of Johnson City, TN, and Barbara Grace Edwards Heilman and her husband, John, of Valdese, NC; grandchildren, Matthew Heilman, Amanda Lafitte and her husband, Jared, Charles Heilman, Caitlyn Moore, Wesley Moore, Benjamin Heilman, Anna Heilman, and Rebecca Heilman; and his adopted grandchildren, Luz, Philip, Joseph, Ryan, and Elle.In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Edwards, and a sister, Grace Edwards Abrams.The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend Michael Riley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard.
