Charles Patrick "Pat" O’Brient

Charles Patrick "Pat" O’Brient, 80, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Born December 6, 1932 in Durham County, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Patrick O’Brient and Blanche Pendergraph O’Brient Payne. Pat was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had worked at Waccamaw Brick in Myrtle Beach, SC, and was a retired employee of Shadowline. Pat and his wife, the late Jackie Abee O’Brient, taught ceramics through Western Piedmont Community College and Pat also volunteered at the Burke Senior Center. He was a long time member of McDonald’s coffee club.Pat is survived by daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Mike Hasson, and Amy and Steve Seagle, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Wesley Hasson, Pfc Ryan Hasson, Leah Hasson, Caroline Seagle, and Caitlin Seagle who lovingly referred to Pat as Granddaddy and Dobbie; and several cousins in Durham.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge HealthCare Cancer Center, 720 Malcolm Blvd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
