Charles W. Garrison

Charles W. Garrison, 86, of Morganton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 25, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 10, 1932, he was the son of the late Robert Phifer Garrison and Ruth Louise Duckworth Garrison.  Charles was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He enjoyed gardening, traveling, gospel music, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Charles is survived by his wife, Leota Burleson Garrison of the home; children, Charles Garrison, Jr. (Cheryl) and Marcia Garrison McCall (Jerry), all of Morganton; grandchildren, Dustin Carswell (Angie) and SFC Obie Carswell (Christina); great-grandchildren, Tyler Short, Makenzie White, Hali White, Mackenzie Carswell, Ryker Carswell, and Amelia Carswell; a number of nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Precious Miss Mollie.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Dean Edward Garrison; and a sister, Addell Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at Salem United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Revs. Norm Jones and Mike Wakefield officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or to the hospice unit at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
