Charles W. Walker, Sr.

Charles W. Walker, Sr., age 94, died peacefully Friday, March 16, 2018 after complications from a fall. He was born February 25, 1924 in Morganton and was the son of the late Clifford Earl Walker and Sarah Elizabeth Walton Walker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Hadden (Butch) Wells Walker of 48 years, Deanie Walker of 1 year, and Madelyn Walker of 19 years; and a grandson, Charles Walker, III.

Charles was a pilot in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.  After the war he attended college at UNC. He worked at Burand’s until recruited by Drexel Furniture where he worked many years as a Manufacturing Rep. He returned to Morganton after Butch’s death to assist his mother, Elizabeth Walker.

Charles is survived by his children, Carolyn Walker Germain, Charles Walton Walker, Jr. and wife, Linda, Janet Leigh Walker, and James Hadden Walker; grandchildren, Sean Germain, Hannah Holbrook, Tiffany Walker, Jessica Kaye, Jennifer Martinez, Michael Noppinger, and Katy Walker; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Woerner; niece, Susan Duckworth; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Walton Walker Music Scholarship Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 459, Morganton, NC 28680.
