Charles Walker “Charlie” Ward, 79, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born in Burke County on January 29, 1937, he was a son of the late William Leith Ward and Hettie Elizabeth McGalliard Ward. Charlie was a veteran of the US Army.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Penny McNeely Ward of the home; a daughter, Sharon Ward Southard and husband, Kent of Morganton; and brother-in-law, Foy McNeely and wife, Patsy of Morganton. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Deborah Parker and husband, Henry of Morganton; other sisters-in-law, Ruby Searcy and husband, Howard of Morganton, and Franceleen Ward of Drexel.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his brothers, L.A. Ward, and Joe Ward, and a sister, Ann McGalliard.
The memorial service will be Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 12 noon in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Land officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
