Charles Willie McCurry

Charles Willie McCurry, 77, of Hillview St., Morganton, NC died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born in Rutherford County, NC on November 30, 1932, he was the son of the late George Willie McCurry and Ida Jones McCurry. Charles was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a former trustee for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. For over 25 years Charles worked at the Western Auto Stores in Morganton and Valdese, and he retired from Wells Small Engine Repair in Valdese. Additionally, he was a member of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217. Later in life he loved playing golf with his wife, family, and friends.Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara Scott McCurry of the home; children, Bill McCurry, Doug McCurry, Linda McCurry, and Jim McCurry, and wife, Cindy, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Donielle and Caitlin Whisenant; an aunt, Gladys Poteet of Morganton; a nephew, Don McCurry, II of Florida; and nieces, Debbie Tait of GA, Denise Hallman of SC, and Donna Burns of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Edward McCurry and his wife, Sandy, and a granddaughter, Ashley McCurry.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
