Charles Winters

Charles Winters, Jr., 86, of Morganton, NC died Monday, February 10, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on June 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles Winters, Sr. and Juanita Laura Harbison Winters. A longtime Morganton businessman, Charles was past president for the Morganton Rotary Club and a Burke County Commissioner. With 43 years of service in the banking industry, he started his career with State Bank of Burke and continued as Vice President of the Northwestern Bank and First Union Bank. He was retired for 20 years and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member at First United Methodist Church.Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth "Lib" England Winters of the home; children, Diane Winters Hubbard and husband, Steve of Morganton, Debbi diSanti and husband, Tony of Blowing Rock, NC, Daphne Winters Stephens and husband, Frankie of Morganton, Michael Winters and wife, Pansy Brandt Winters of Social Circle, GA; grandchildren, Stephanie Dutton, Erin Campbell, Kelsey Painter, Chad Stephens, Brandt Winters, Nicholas Winters; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Alera, Maddox, Myla and Kaeden.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelley Hager.The funeral will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Private graveside will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
