Charlie Delbert Wilson, 70, of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2018. Born in Yancey County on December 14, 1947, he was a son of the late Daniel Warren Wilson and Cora Lou Thomas Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church. He was a loving father and Pa Paw. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and fishing. He was owner of Wilson’s Auto Sales in Morganton for over 30 years. Upon his retirement, Charlie provided transportation for clients of the Cognitive Connection for several years. He also took great pleasure in helping the homeless community in Hickory.
Mr. Wilson leaves behind his children, Carlene Ray, Joseph Clarke and wife, Marlee, and Corrianne Wilson; grandchildren, Dallas Davis, Page Clarke, Judge Clarke and wife, Brooke, Samuel Keller, Dollie Clarke, and Noah Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Ruth Davis. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Wilson and wife, Jerri; sisters, Louise Lewis and Linda Yount; numerous nephews and nieces; and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Norman Wilson; brother, Donald Wilson; sister, Elizabeth Satterfield; in-laws, Patricia and Fred Hulseberg; and Cora’s second husband, John Hampton.
The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Way of the Cross Baptist Church. The celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Richard Ellington officiating.
