Chris Douglas Childers, 57, of Morganton went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 8, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Burke County, NC on January 25, 1955, he was the son of the late Douthit "Daffy" Childers and Beulah May Carswell Childers. Chris was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church where he had served as a church deacon and was very dedicated.He was owner and operator of Alltemp Heating and Air Conditioning of Morganton, Inc. for the past 21 years. Chris was a past member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217 and he was a past president of the Morganton Optimist Club. His passions in life included hunting and fishing and he loved his grandkids and life.A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, Chris is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jackie Halley Childers of the home; daughters, Kristen Abner and her husband, Scotty, Jolene Seidel and her husband, Jason, and Patricia Childers, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Douglas Williams, Destiny Williams, Grayson Seidel, and Ellie Abner; brothers, Glenn Childres and his wife, Kathryn, and James Allen Childers, Sr.; a sister-in-law, Glenda Childres; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by her brother, David Childres.A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Mace, Rev. Dr. Ralph May, and Bradley Childres officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
