Clara Turner Norman, 92, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 following a brief illness. Born May 27, 1922 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late C. E. Turner and Mamie Walker Turner. Clara was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was employed for many years at Skyline Textiles (formerly Buster Brown), was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling to the beach with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Carlette McKinney of Morganton; sons, John W. Norman, Jr., Warren Norman and wife, Susan, and Larry Norman and wife, Linda, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Stephanie Jarrett and husband, Harry, Joshua Norman and wife, Heather, Kelly Sizemore and husband, Todd, and Megan Lloyd and husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Olivia White, Sophia O’Neal and husband, Jake, Elijah, Micah, Jonah, and Noah Norman, Hunter and Jackson Sizemore, Makenna Lloyd, and Cheyenne Jarrett; a great-great granddaughter, Jocelyn O’Neal; a brother, “C. D.” Turner of Delaware; sisters, Betty Ann Summers of Maryland and Faye Garrison of Morganton; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, John Woodrow Norman; grandchildren, Jonathan S. Norman and Angela McKinney; brothers, Gilbert, Harold, and Alexander Turner; a sister, Lib Ross; and a son-in-law, Wayne McKinney.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Emory and Dr. Johnny Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Building Fund, 1112 Hopewell Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
