Visitation
Service
The ever-diminishing group of WWII manpower lost another member. Clarence Alexander Wilson, 95, of Morganton passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018. He was born July 23, 1922 to the late Marcus Rudolph Wilson and Sarah Elizabeth Mace Wilson.
His many years of adventures included: farming, moonshining, life as a sailor, husband hood, parenting, fishing, auto mechanizing, and storytelling.
How lucky he was having two best friends named Jack. There was Jack Dale, the fisherman and storyteller, also, Jack Spake, the sailor and the storyteller. Jack Spake was always around to aid Mr. Wilson with his every need and visited him on his last conscious day. Clarence cherished them both.
He missed his late wife Essie, every day.
Like Jimmy Stewart once said, "After the age of seventy, its patch, patch, patch". In his later years there were several major body repairs. He was very pleased that his son Kevin helped out with medical supplies, and his grandson Jon, "became his legs". Of much importance to him, he was able to enjoy a close relationship with his daughter Jackie, after many years apart. Together they researched his ailments, deciphered medical jargon, and pushed through red tape so he could live at home until he couldn't.
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
