Claude Nelson Baker, 83, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Born in Burke County on October 31, 1938, he was the son of the late William Monroe Baker and Eula Beatrice Buff Baker. Claude was a member of Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Baker retired from Southern Great Lake Carbon after 37 years of service as an overhead crane operator.
Claude is survived by his wife, Katherine Benfield Baker; children, Cindy Baker Woody (Kenneth), C.N. Baker (Becky), and Calvin Baker; siblings, Eula Mae Shook, Kathy Edwards, and Randall Baker; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Clifford.
In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by twin infant brothers; and sisters, Sadie Bordeaux and Marie Rogers.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2022 at Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Hefner officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
