Clay William Turbyfill, 91, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. Born in Avery County, NC on May 2, 1923, he was a son of the late James Rosco and Lockie Guy Turbyfill.
Clay was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church. He was a machine operator for Drexel Heritage for 37 ½ years. Clay was a proud United States Army Veteran serving in WWII, receiving seven battle stars. Clay held in highest regard his God, his family, his Bible, his country, and his church. He helped establish the World War II Veteran’s Group many years ago that continues today.
He is survived by his daughters, Janice Dembnicki of Southern Pines and Doris Turbyfill of Morganton; sisters, Gladys Presswood and Frances Gouge; grandchildren, Toby Turbyfill, Terry Moore, and Lacey Powell.
In addition to his parents, Clay was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Banner Turbyfill; 2nd wife, Gloria Greene Turbyfill; son, Roger Turbyfill; and 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April, 18, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Dr. Rufus Edmisten officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Burke Memorial Park with military honors by the NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
