Clema McGalliard Rich, 101, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, May 15, 2016 following a period of declining health. Born May 21, 1914 in Morganton, she was the daughter of the late W. Junius McGalliard and Maude Poteat McGalliard. She was known as “Mac” to her friends.
Clema was a faithful and dedicated member of Hopewell Baptist Church for a number of years. She was very active and committed to her work for the Lord for as many years as her health permitted. Mac served as a Sunday school teacher and principal of vacation bible school numerous times. She was also a founding member of the Lettie Hamlett Circle of the church.
Mrs. Rich was a gracious hostess to all who entered her home and loved nothing more than having friends and family come for a visit, snack, or meal.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Rufus Rich; a son, Daryl William Rich; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Spake Rich; sisters, Lillie M. Ross and Thelma M. Whisnant; and brothers, Raymond, L.J., and Lloyd “Snake” McGalliard.
Mrs. Rich is survived by her son, Howard M. Rich and his wife, Lynda, of Morganton; her daughter, Judy Rich Clark and her husband, Joe, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Michael A. Rich and Julie Rich Stillwell and her husband, Todd; great-grandchildren, Emily Stillwell, Heather Stillwell, Ambria Rich, and Tanner Rich; a sister, Hazel M. Lindsey of Prescott, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as all the extended family members of her daughter-in-law, Lynda.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Hopewell Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3pm at the church with the Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
