Cleo Burns Crump

Cleo Burns Crump, 84, of Antioch Road, Morganton, NC died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Grace Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on August 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Claywell Burns and Betsy Hallyburton Burns. Cleo was a charter member of and the person responsible for the name of North Cross Church. She was a retired employee of Alba-Waldensian and loved to garden and cook. She was never too busy to teach her grandchildren to play the guitar. She cherished her family, friends, and church.She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Curtis B. Crump of the home; a son, Charlie Crump and wife, Nancy, of Morganton; a daughter, Gloria Hevel and husband, Geoff, of Morganton; grandchildren, Richard Crump and wife, Angelica, Eric Crump and wife, Jennifer, Rebecca Crump, Gina Bowen and husband, Billy, Beth Cordell and husband, Tripp, and Michael Crump, all of Morganton, and Greta Hevel Gush and husband, John, of Oregon City, OR; great-grandchildren, Chassidy, Matthew, Marianna, Aaron, Daniel, and Olivia Crump, Quentin Benfield, Caleb, Cianna, and Caroline Cordell, Angel Gragg, Nick and Rose Bowen; a brother, Willard Burns of Asheville, NC; and a sister, Sissie Coffey and husband, Harold, of Morganton.In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Crump; and brothers, Vernon and Joe Burns.The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009 at North Cross Church with Rev. Charlie Crump officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
