Cleo Carswell Smith

Cleo Carswell Smith, 95, of Watershed Rd., Morganton, NC died Friday, October 8, 2010 at Britthaven of Morganton following a lengthy illness. Born February 6, 1915 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Sylvanus S. and Sarah Roper Carswell. Cleo was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith; a son, Harley Gene Smith; brothers, Dorse, Jethro, Bill, and Rev. Zack Carswell; sisters, Lissie Laughridge, Bertha Carswell, Belle Cook, Joyce Chapman, and Lillie Smith.Surviving are her son, Harold Smith of Morganton; daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith of Morganton; grandchildren, Darrell Smith and his wife, Melinda of Morganton, Sharon Day and her husband, Kenneth of Rhodhiss, NC, Penny Smith of Morganton, Greg Smith and his wife, Penny of Morganton, and Linda White and her husband, Paul of Morganton; seven great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.The funeral will be held at 3:00, Monday, October 11, 2010 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Reverends Jesse Carr and Jack Moses officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Sossoman Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Harold Smith.
