Cline Yancey, 78, of Glen Alpine, NC passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on September 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Ellis Yancey, Sr. and Dora Woods Yancey. Cline retired from Dana Corporation and was of the Baptist Faith. He loved the outdoors, nature, and gardening. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, but hunting was his passion.He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jordan Yancey of the home; sons, Tracy Yancey and wife, Maureen ?Mo? Schwind of Morganton and Sandy Yancey of Morganton; a brother, Marvin Yancey and wife, Lois, of Columbia, SC and their granddaughter, Nikki; special nieces, Terry Jordan and Taylor Lowdermilk, both of Morganton; brothers-in-law, Ralph Jordan, Paul Jordan, and Larry Jordan and wife, Robyn, all of Morganton; sisters-in-law, Nancy Jordan, Ruby Ramsey, and Frances Stroupe and husband, James, all of Morganton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-nephew to whom he was much more than an uncle.In addition to his parents, Cline was preceded in death by two brothers, William Yancey and Ellis Yancy, Jr.; three sisters, Martha McLawhorn, Mary Hildebrand, and Ethel Baxter; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Jordan and Fred Ramsey.Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 in Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Todd McCullough of First United Methodist Church of Morganton officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 S. Church Street, Suite 303, Charlotte, NC 28202, the American Lung Association, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
