Clinnon “Bud” Cole

Clinnon “Bud” Cole, 93, of Morganton passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 after a period of declining health.  Born in Buncombe County, NC on June 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Ralph C. Cole and Bonnie Faye Collins Cole.  Bud was a veteran of the US Navy, the US Air Force, and finally retired from the US Army.  He served in World War II and the Korean War.  He was a charter member of Helion Lodge #1 in Huntsville, AL.  Bud was a generous man and devoted father and grandfather who loved his family dearly.  He also loved animals, especially cats.  He enjoyed the mountains and camping.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Faye Cole Buxton (Danny); grandchildren, Harold Duckworth, Jr. and Dalena Duckworth Mull; five great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, David Cole (Sharron).

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Cole; and sisters, Elizabeth Foster and Janice Gonzalez.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Chaplain Jack Taylor officiating.  Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors provided by the NC National Guard and masonic rites provided by Catawba Valley Lodge #217.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiner’s Children’s Hospital in Greenville, SC.
