Clyde Hal Parker, 89, of Fort Myers, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at home. Born in Lincoln County, NC on January 4, 1930, he was the seventh child born to Zealous Chive Parker and Metta Mae Kiser. Clyde led an adventurous life from a very early age. He spent a great deal of time with his grandfather, Daniel Monroe (Pappy) Parker. He enjoyed listening to his stories while fishing nearby their home. In 1945, Clyde went to work for Hickory Chair, then moved on to Drexel Furniture in Morganton, NC where he finished furniture for their showroom. In 1952, Clyde married Nina Crawley of Morganton and they moved to Baltimore, MD in 1953. After working at Monarch Rubber and Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, he and Nina started Parker Well Drilling in Pasadena, MD in 1958. They continued the company, along with their sons, after moving to Fort Myers, FL in 1976.
During their time in Florida, they also operated a small grocery store and restaurant in Fort Myers. Clyde retired in 2005 and spent his time in Fort Myers, FL and Vale, NC.
Clyde Parker is survived by his four children, Nathan Parker, Wesley Parker and Victoria Taylor all of Fort Myers, FL and Cynthia (Richard) Paxton of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Jason, April and Kaylee Ann Parker and Renee Paxton; great grandchildren Abigail Larson, Tyler and Dylan VanGraafeiland, JaAllen and Ja’Unnaha Parker; Royce Allen and Heavenly Joy Paxton; sisters Clara Lee Pizzoli, Guynell Bingham and Christine Greene and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Crawley Parker (1933 – 2012), two brothers, Ford Leon Parker (1919-1956) and Farrell Devon Parker (1925-1984); four sisters, Elva Parker Hull (1911-2007), Eva Parker Miller (1914-2011), Letha Parker Bradshaw (1916-2008) and Mable Parker Kistler (1931-1996).
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2396 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Jerry Denton will conduct the music, and his wife Loretta will accompany on the piano. Reverends Dr. Jack Hodges and Steve Houser will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Afterward, family and guests are invited to share refreshments in the fellowship hall.
