Clyde Leroy Lingafeldt was born Jan 15, 1951, in Burke County, North Carolina to Ellis Lingafelt Jr and Ruby Wellman Lingafelt. He passed away at 73 years old on Aug 4, 2024, at Nash General Hospital after a period of declining health. He was preceded in death by his father Ellis who passed away less than two months prior in June and his mother Ruby who passed away a few weeks after his birth and also by his grandparents Ellis Lingafelt Sr and Cora Lingafelt who raised him after Ruby’s passing.

Clyde is survived by his son James Lingafeldt and daughter Brenna “Raven” Herd born from his first marriage to Nancy Lingafeldt, and his sister’s Barbara Powell, and Pam Beck along with James’ wife Jennifer Dell Lingafeldt, their daughters Leah and Emma, Brenna’s husband Wes Herd, his daughter Heather Joanna Renstrom, Barbara’s husband Rex “Sput” Powell, with their kids Chris and Becky, and Pam’s children Gwen Parker and Jamie Rogers, along with an abundance of kin living predominately in North Carolina.

Clyde was a private person until you got to know him and even then, he kept some things to himself. But for those who did, knew he was obsessed with family and spent hours working on the family tree and history, orchestrated family reunions and compiled a cookbook of various family recipes. He was an avid hunter and spent time with his friends and family going out on many occasions in his youth. As he got older, and his health declined, this passion transitioned to virtual hunting games on his computer to retain the sense of the experience. Something he got to share with his son for a few years as they united across hundreds of miles to enjoy each other’s company. Among his other interests were racing, which included NASCAR and drag races, and baseball where he was a fan of the Braves like his father. He was a patriot and believed in this country and its freedoms.

As such, he joined the Air Force in 1969 as an enlisted man working on the maintenance of the Minuteman missiles at Malmstrom AFB. His work continued in this field on the Atlas and Peacekeeper systems along with the Rail Garrison Weapon systems during his time stationed as Davis-Monthan AFB, and Norton AFB. His military career advanced further when he earned his bachelor’s degree and attended Officer Training School and gained his commission before transferring to his final duty assignment at Eglin AFB. Here he held many jobs covering ammunition and gun testing for various systems including the A-10 Warthog, the Navy 20mm round for Air Force use, and some electronic instrumentation testing and implementation. He retired from the Air Force in 1993 at the rank of Captain.

Upon his retirement he held additional jobs working at West Building Materials as an assistant general manager, Gillette/Duracell as a production supervisor, and Hospira, Inc as a production supervisor.

The family will receive friends from 11am until noon, Thursday, Aug 22, 2024, at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The burial will be at West Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.

Clyde will be greatly missed. We love you!
