Clyde Rees Puett, 91, of Morganton, NC, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 after a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County to the late Thomas Eugene Puett and Clara Baird Puett of the Chesterfield community. He was a World War II veteran serving in the European conflict. He arrived on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, on June 9 with the Transportation Dept. He raised his family in Hammond, Indiana and was a tool grinder by trade. In his later years, he earned his GED certificate at Western Piedmont Community College.
Surviving are his children, Gary Puett of Texas, Donna Ottinger and husband, Sonny of Moab, Utah and Penny Cole and husband, Tim of Illinois; grandson, Kyle Casper; great-grandchildren, Terran and Portia Casper of Moab; brother, Thomas Puett of Hickory; sister, Reba Reece of Morganton and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Brown of Morganton and Jean Shull of Hickory. Private Interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery at Black Mountain at a later date.
