Clyde Tallent, 88, of Morganton died Sunday, February 3, 2013 following a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County on April 26, 1924 and was a son of the late Peter White Tallent and Bessie Hudson Tallent, In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Epley Tallent; brothers, Thad and Forrest Tallent; and sister, Frances Carpenter.He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II where he fought in five major campaigns in the European theater. Clyde was a retired supervisor at Broughton Hospital and was a charter member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where he was a very active in all areas of church life.Clyde is survived by his son, Kevin C. Tallent and his wife, Amy of Morganton; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tallent; step-grandchildren, Casey Harris and Jay, Jeremy, and Michelle Raymond; brothers and their wives, Cecil and Judy Tallent and Alton and Mary Tallent all of Morganton; sister and her husband, Hazel and Ed Dennehy of Florida; a sister-in-law, Helen Gayler; brother-in-law and his wife, Jerome and Barbara Epley all of Morganton; special friends, Mary Stephenson and Robert Puett both of Morganton; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and extended family.The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church with Reverends Heather Kilbourne and Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the N. C. National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday one hour before the service. Memorial contributions in Mr. Tallent’s honor may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 201 Shady Rest Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to Medi Home Hospice, PO Box 1357, Newland, NC 28657. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the Tallent family with arrangements.
