Colene Williams Cannon

Colene Williams Cannon, 87, of Valdese, NC died Thursday, June 6, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on November 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late James Harley Williams and Naomi Sigmon Williams. Colene was a faithful, active, and lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, played handbells, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed life and had a great sense of humor. Mrs. Cannon was a caregiver with Direct Care for about 18 years.A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Colene is survived by her sons, Michael Cannon of Conover, Terry Cannon and his wife, Tammy, of Goldsboro, NC, and Keith Cannon and his wife, Martha, of Hickory, NC; a daughter, Diane Cannon of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Steve Cannon, Janet Byers, Natasha Benson, Brett Cannon, Samantha Young, Nick Cannon, Haley Cannon, Austin Pendergraph, and Aaron Pendergraph; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer and Jerry Williams, both of Valdese; and a sister, Frances Powell of Valdese.In addition to her parents, Colene was preceded in death by her husband, William Baker Cannon, and a sister, Martha Jo Powell.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Knopp, II officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
