Colleen Page Duplain, 85, of Valdese, passed away peacefully in the hospital with her son and grandson by her side on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Colleen was born March 23, 1928, to the late Carl and Ruth Thompson Cooper Page. She graduated in the top of her class at Drexel High School and earned the honor of class Salutatorian. Colleen had a lifelong love of learning, and after the passing of her husband, William "Bill" Albert Duplain, Sr., she went back to school and obtained an LPN degree in nursing and worked in that field for many years.Colleen and her siblings inherited their mother Ruth’s creativity. Colleen expressed this creativity through her many talents, including: oil painting, sewing, cooking, and a variety of homemaking skills in which she excelled and used in raising her family.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; siblings, Gaynell Lowery, Jack Page, Betty Page, and Kay Page; and lifelong friend Marzelle, whom Colleen loved dearly.Survivors include her sister, Nancy Page Watts; her children William "Bill" Albert Duplain, Jr., Farrell Wayne Duplain, and Kim Marzelle Duplain; and grandchildren, William "Billy" Albert Duplain, III, Alexander "Alex" Theodore Duplain, Kyle Harlan Ochsenbein, Sean William Ochsenbein, Riley Conner Duplain, and Taylor Grace Duplain.As Colleen desired, her remains will be cremated and scattered alongside those of her late husband.A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2014, in the chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends before the service from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Anyone who would like to speak at the memorial service to share special memories they have of Colleen are encouraged by the family to do so. Please inform the family of any such desire before the memorial service at the receiving of friends.
