Dale Junior Hicks

Dale Junior Hicks, 75, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Born March 29, 1947 in Avery County, NC he was a son of the late Junior Hicks and Frankie Turbyfill Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Gwyn Hicks.

Mr. Hicks was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam during the years of 1966-1968. He worked in the sheriff’s department in Avery County for several years and then in Burke County for several more years and also at Spruce Pine Correctional Center. He then retired from Dana/Sypris Corporation.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his daughter, Jeneen Hicks Radford (Saint Tapp); grandchildren, Makayla Radford, Braylee Radford, and Will Radford; and siblings, Carlos Hicks (Dianne), Rayna Thompson (Neal), and Darlene Allen (Mark). Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margie Edwards (Tim), Glen Gwyn (Kathy), David Gwyn (Ramona), Bruce Gwyn (Debbie), and Michael Gwyn.

Dale enjoyed his time being with his special friends’ groups that included the Old Timers Sunday School Class and Liar’s Club, aka Walnut Hollow. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Grace Heights and the ICU unit at UNC Health Blue Ridge Hospital.

The memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.  Military honors will be provided by NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Operation Christmas Child at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.
