Danny Bernard Walker

Danny Bernard Walker, 68, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Born February 26, 1944 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Rob and Ruby Smith Walker. Danny was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir, taught R.A.’s, and served as the church handyman. He retired from Henredon Furniture after forty-five years of service. Danny was a student in the horticulture program at Western Piedmont Community College. He loved being a college student, working in the greenhouse, and playing with his grandchildren.Danny is survived by his wife of 43 years, Arretta Duckworth Walker of the home; children, Susie Ballew and husband, Brian, Tammy Milligan, and Randy Walker and wife, Brooke, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Teague Ballew, Jackson Milligan, Alex Walker, and Charlie Walker; siblings, Betty Buff and husband, Ronald, Carolyn Stamey and husband, Ken, Faye Poteat and husband, Larry, and Larry Walker and wife, Shelia; a sister-in-law, Ruth Walker; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors in Morganton.In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by brothers, Rex Walker and Ervin Walker; and a niece, Amy Buff.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mount Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Home Baptist Church Graceful Giving Fund, 2272 Mount Home Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
