Danny Eugene Powell

Danny Eugene Powell, 55, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 after an extended illness.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 19, 1963, he was the son of the late Willard Odell Powell and Joyce Mae Bumgarner Powell.  Danny was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.  He was a past member of the American Quarter Horse Association.  In 2001, he began serving as Barn Manager for the Drexel Community Fair.  In 2008 he also took on the role of Vice President of the fair.

A loving and devoted husband and family man, Danny is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debra Morrison Powell of the home; brother, Gary Odell Powell (Jean); nieces, Donna Keaton (Scott) and Julie Stallings (Larry); his girls, Leigh Anne and Madison Monn; nephews, Jonathan Powell and Michael Allman; brother-in-law, Calvin Morrison (Cindy); sister-in-law, Lib Allman (Dean); 7 great-nieces and nephews; and a number of extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Shane Epps and Rev. Keith Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
