Darby Skinner McCathern, Jr., 83, of Morganton, NC passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, October 4, 2017. He was born August 5, 1934 in Anderson County, SC and was the son of the late Darby Skinner McCathern, Sr. and Allene Hall McCathern. Darby was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. He was a faithful husband for 57 years, a devoted father and doting Papa. Darby was dedicated to serving the Lord, his church, and community. He was very patriotic and was proud of his service to his country where he served in the United States Air Force. He has a special regard for the nation of Israel as Gods chosen people. Weather you knew him or not there was no question on where he stood on a variety of subjects.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother in the Lord, Thurman “Buster” Garrison.
Darby is survived by his wife, Mildred Conley McCathern; daughter, Aline Robelen and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Margaret, Lindsay, Drew, and Will Robelen of Charlotte, NC; and step-brothers, Tommy and Nickie Hancock of Sumter, SC.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Reverends Eddy Bunton and Kevin Crawford officiating. Graveside with Dr. David Mills will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and United States Air Force. The family will have a gathering in the fellowship hall after the burial.
