Darren Wilson, 55, of Morganton, NC passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 9, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on January 16, 1961, he was the son of Loree Duval Wilson of Morganton and the late Andy Wilson. Darren was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morganton and Trinity United Methodist Church in Nebo, NC. He was a graduate of Freedom High School where he was very active in sports. He was also a graduate of Appalachian State University, lettering all four years in football. He was employed at Morganton Federal Savings and Loan. Darren was an avid outdoorsman whose love and friendship will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Wilson is survived by his sister, Tyra Wilson Jones of Morganton; nephews, Ellis Wilson Martin of Greensboro, NC and Andrew Tyler Martin of Winston-Salem, NC; aunts, Pearl Ippolito, Inez Wilson, and Katherine Wilson; and a large number of beloved cousins.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. John Fowler and the Rev. Donald Morrison officiating.
