David "Bud" Browning

David "Bud" Browning, 81 of Nebo, NC died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Lenoir, NC.  Born May 23, 1933 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Browning and Ida Chapman Browning.  Bud was a 1951 graduate of Glen Alpine High School where he was President of his Senior Class.  For many years, he worked at High Point Sprinkler and at Daniels Construction.  He was an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and Harley Browning; sisters, Iris "Tootsie" Browning and Arlene Poteat; and the mother of his children, Elizabeth "Lib" Gray Conley.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Brenda Burchfield Browning; daughters, Christine Browning Shuffler of Valdese and Phyllis Browning Bowers and husband, Freddie of Dike, Iowa; grandchildren, Dustin and Holly Shuffler; brothers, Carroll "Bo" Browning of Nebo and Marty Browning of Morganton; a sister, Winnie "Winkie" Fox of Morganton; a sister-in-law, Dean Browning of Nebo; and a number of nephews and nieces.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Gyles Widener and Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
