David Elmore Johnson

David Elmore Johnson, 79, of Morganton passed away Monday, February 11, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 2, 1939, he was the son of the late James Elmore Johnson and Margaret Sparks Johnson.  David was a member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He was a veteran of the US Army and enjoyed playing golf.

David is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson of the home; children, Allen Johnson, Linda Moody (Terry); grandchildren, Amber Mason (Brandon), Carla Abernathy, Josh Johnson (Kristen), Malinda Owens (Jay Sealey); great-grandchildren, Brinley Mason, Ansley Mason, Alisha Abernathy, Elizabeth “Izzy” Abernathy, Sky Owens, and Lila Sealey; brother, Floyd Johnson and wife, Beth; sister, Mabel Carswell; brother-in-law, Lloyd Costner; and his golfing buddies, Phil Hennessee and David Gwyn.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by sisters, Ethel “Bibi” Cook and Dorothy Costner; and granddaughter, Alisha Moody.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Revs. Chris Dale, Donald Lovelace, and Al Tinnin officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.
