David Huel Thompson

David Huel Thompson, 88, of Glen Alpine, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 2, 2018.  Born in Cherokee County, NC on April 29, 1930, he was the son of the late Columbus Stephenson Thompson and Bertha Greene Thompson.  David was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.  He enjoyed carpentry and gardening, and he especially loved the Lord and his church.  A simple man with a great sense of humor, David always had a kind word for those around him.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David is survived by his daughters, Cindy Van Donsel and husband, Jon, of Mars Hill, NC and Debra McPeters of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Michelle, Danielle, Sarah, Sabrina, and John; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Arzella Clark of Morganton and Ira Mae Moss of Murphy, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Massey Thompson; sister, Ruth Brown; and 3 brothers, Willis, Otis, and Obrea Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 7 at Faith Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Rocky Reese officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
