David Kenneth "Pod" Cook

David Kenneth "Pod" Cook, 66, of Connelly Springs, NC died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at his residence. Born in Burke County, NC on May 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Leonard Houston Cook and Ethel Mae Canipe Cook. Pod worked for many years doing furniture and carpentry with his own business and later with his family.A loving and devoted husband and father, Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Jackie Chapman Cook of the home; children, Danny Cook and his wife, Mary, of Connelly Springs, Timothy Cook and his wife, Lori, of Dunlap, TN, Mark Cook of Connelly Springs, Donna Martin and her husband, Buddy, of Connelly Springs, and Shane Duran and his wife, Alisha, of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Stevie Martin, Bruce Bumgarner, Kisha Bumgarner, Miranda Cook, Kayla Cook, Callie Cook, Addie Cook, Sadeigh Cook, Keith Richardson, Alyssa Dellinger, Logan Duran, Selena Duran, D.J. Shuford, and Austin Shuford; great-grandchildren, Zoie Martin, Hunter Bumgarner, and Jaydon Dellinger; sisters, Catherine Glover and her husband, Stan, and Sheila Beach, both of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Pod was preceded in death by a son, John Duran; brothers, Larry Cook and Danny Ray Cook; and a sister, Rixie Mae Canipe.The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Price and the Rev. Paul Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
