David L. Wise

David L. Wise, born on June 26, 1945, departed this life on October 23, 2010 at Burke Palliative Center in Valdese after eight months of declining health. He was a life-long resident of East Parker Road in Morganton.He is survived by his beloved daughter, Robin Wise; her mother, Jayne Wise; two grandsons, Thomas and Emmannuel; two brothers, James Wise and wife, Ruby, and Robert "Bob" Wise, and wife, Georgia; his nephews and nieces, Terry Wise, Johnny Wise, Dennis Wise, Barbara Miller, Kathy Robinson, Jeff Cook, Chris Cook, Jerry Wise, Jr., Jeff Wise, and Jeanette Wise; a brother-in-law, Jerry Cook and wife, Mary, of Morganton; a sister-in-law, Connie Cook of Morganton; and an aunt, Edna Williams. He was a dear friend to so many that attempting to specifically name them would be futile.David was preceded in death by his father, Herman H. Wise, and his mother, Ruth Rudecil Wise, whom he cherished. He was also predeceased by his brother, Jerry Wise, as well as his father and mother-in-law, Stacy and Vergie Cook. David was a devoted son and spent much time in his youth serving others in the community.At the time he became ill, David was planning to retire after forty-five years of exemplary state service at both Broughton Hospital and the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. David never tired of helping others and gladly assisted those for whom reading or completing necessary written documentation was a problem.When a friend was suffering, David was one of the first to not only offer words of support, but to offer his assistance, whether by visiting at the hospital/nursing facility, or offering financial support through a gift of money or donation of sick time to a co-worker or their family.David’s warmth, generosity and wonderful sense of humor touched so many during his life on Earth. Many of us will always think of David when we hear certain phrases or look at items he has given as gifts. His friends collectively count it a privilege to have been part of his life.The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center Covenant Center with Reverends David Orders and Johnny Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Covenant Center from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
