David Lee Deal, 66, of Morganton, NC passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Born on March 3, 1950 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Charles and Sybil Dove Deal. David graduated from George Washington High School in 1968 and Averett College in 1972. He began his 40 year career in banking in 1972 with North Carolina National Bank and retired in 2013 from Community One Bank.
David was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganton through which he participated in ministry at the Burke Mission Station Soup Kitchen and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member and treasurer of Morganton Rotary Club and had previously served on the boards of the Historic Burke Foundation, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, and Burke United Christian Ministires.
In retirement, David developed a passion for classic sports cars and co-founded the Table Rock Sports Car Club. He enjoyed planning local car drives that highlighted the scenery of western NC, local eateries, and wineries. The car club also held fund drives to benefit the Joara foundation.
Mr. Deal is survived by his wife, Angela Deal of the home; a son, Aaron, a daughter, Melissa Cross and her husband, David; a granddaughter, Melrose; a brother, Bruce; a sister, Debra; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home.
