David Morris Wakefield, 64 of Morganton, NC passed away, Monday, November 18, 2024. Born on October 30, 1960, he was the son of the late Lee McLendon "Mac" Wakefield and Evelyn Wakefield. David retired from the City of Morganton after 31 years at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. After retirement, David worked for Handy Care. David was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed camping, and being outdoors.

David is survived by his brothers, Alan Ray Wakefield and Keith Wakefield; nephews, Josh Wakefield, Jackie Wakefield; nieces, Joy Wakefield McClellan, Blair Wakefield.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee M. Wakefield, Jr. and Barry Joe Wakefield.

A cryptside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2024 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will greet friends following the service.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

My uncle Dave was one of If not the greatest man I ever knew. My heart is completely shattered. I’m glad he is pain free now. As much as I miss and love him I know he’s still looking out for me. Boogity boogity boogity

The first time that I met David was when he was working for Handi-Care. I couldn't drive after I had a broken ankle in 2021 and he took me to my therapy appointment. He told me that he had worked worked with my husband with the City of Morganton. He was a very caring person.

David touched so many lives while driving for Handi-Care, he was loved by all he come in contact with. I will miss his laugh greatly! David was a wonderful friend to all. Rest easy my friend We all at Handi-Care lost a special friend.
