Committal
David Penland, 33, of Monroe, NC and formerly of Morganton, NC passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Born in the United Kingdom on January 24, 1984, he was the son of Bobby and Betsy Penland of Morganton. He attended Grace Episcopal Church in his youth. David graduated from Freedom High School in 2002 and from UNC Charlotte in 2010 with a double major in Math and Computer Science. He was currently working at Integration Point.
In addition to his parents, David is survived by his wife, Erin Simmons Penland of the home; sister, Francis Penland and companion, Katie Woodard, of Morganton; paternal grandparents, Harland and Jane Scholl of Oxford, Mississippi; step-maternal grandmother, Jeane R. Suddarth of Chapel Hill, NC; aunts and uncles, Debi Cutter and husband, Randy, Davi Ledet, Sterling and Suzanne Suddarth, Deb Kopytowski, and Thomas and Megan Suddarth; God-children, Joshua Cooke and Scythe Moore; beloved friend, Nathan Moore; and his rescue puppies, Mr. Bear and Salmon.
David was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Dee Penland, Jr.; grandmothers, Francis M. Scholl and Jane C. Suddarth; and grandfathers, Cleo Penland and Tom Suddarth.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Marshall Jolly officiating. The family will greet friends in the parish hall following the service.
